INFORMATION FOR FRIENDS & VISITORS FROM OUTSIDE THE NETHERLANDS
'Stichting de Ezelsocieteit' (translated: 'the Donkey Society') is an organisation which has donkeys, donors and volunteers as its members.
Our aim is to:
- rescue neglected donkeys and make sure they get a new,loving home.
These foster homes are inspected by the Donkey Society before and during placement as they have to meet our exacting standards.
- take care of old and/or handicapped donkeys who we promise to give a hug each day, accompanied by good food, medical treatment and housing at our own Sanctuary in Zeist.
- inform people about donkeys and the care they need.
- organise workshops for donkey owners and our volunteers.
- gain & give information about the inhumane donkey and horse transports which take place within Europe, for example to Italy.
It is important to know that all donkeys, taken in by the Donkey Society, will remain our property until they die.
They will not end up in a slaughter house! If we are given a stallion the Society will pay for its castration before it goes to its new foster home.
Our donors and foster families receive a newsletter 2 - 3 times a year.
We also support the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth (UK) and we have adopted a donkey at the Donkey Shelter on Bonaire.
